Popping Up

Gallery202 are 'Popping-up' At the University of Northampton

On the 18th September 2013 Gallery202 took delivery of some excellent exhibition equipment that we can use with our pop up projects.

It was a momentus occassion for us and the team from Flexibitions got caught up with our excitment as they helped us unload.

At this point we would like to say - Thank you to the whole team at Flexibitions especially Danielle and Tony.

Sharon Read Jill Hedges and Bethany Murray allocated money from the Social Enterprise funding to purchase specialist equipment enabling a contemporary professional delivery of work from all artists.

The first event using the equipment is appropriately at the University of Northampton. The suggestion of popping up was met with enthusiasm from the University and we had help and guidance from many members of staff that were very all excited and interested not only in the work we wanted to show, but our concept and commitment to our social enterprise.

Our aims for the exhibition were to show work from a range of artists whilst promoting our group. Also promote our curent project Project202.

We are wanting 202 artists to get involved with what will be an art exchange, a start of a collection of works that will form a travelling exhibition and a good opportunity to form a network of artist with varying interests both artistically and culturally. Gallery202 is open to artists at differing stages of their practice therefore we work with students, emerging artists and practicing artists alike creating a diverse network of artists and introducing a range of methodologies, interests and ideas.

We are also hoping that the art around Avenue Campus will inspire and engage. Already there is the potential for other project to emerge from this. We are discussing ways that we can engage with the community both on campus and outside the realms of the University.

We also wanted to orientat new students to their whereabouts therefore using the art in a way that will map certain areas of the campus.

Logged below is a record of the works we are exhibiting. Gallery202 would like to thank the University of Northampton in particular;

Dpty Dean Paul Middleton, Gayle Sadler, Suzanne Stenning, Jo Harris Ralph Daryshire, Richard Hawkes and Tracy Brockton.

A huge thanks goes to the porters for their help and humour.

We have a presentation running just outside Avenue Gallery at the University and in the Walgrave building.
